THE DIRECTOR

D.L. Anderson makes visual meals in the American South as an independent documentary Director and Cinematographer.

An early career in print photojournalism sharpened his sense of community-based storytelling and original reporting. In 2012 he helped found VITTLES FILMS; a consortium of artists of many stripes creating lyrical films that nourish and revive. Anderson's first documentary feature with Vittles, FARMER/VETERAN (Co-Director, Editor, Producer) is an immersive experience that “defies your expectations at every turn,” and was broadcast on Season 17 of PBS’ INDEPENDENT LENS.

His second documentary feature STAY PRAYED UP (Co-Director, Producer, D.P., Editor) is a fast-paced, foot-thumping Gospel music documentary profiling Lena Mae Perry and The Branchettes as they record their first, fully live album in 50 years.  The film premiered at Telluride Film Festival and the The New York Times called it “inspiring in the ways of both shaking the raters and invoking peace in the valley.”
